Period: ca. 1870-1930. This charming table has two levels, the top of which is covered with rattan carpets and the spacer top is adorned with a cut-out. The frame and legs of the table are made of real bamboo. The cutting level presents what is made to look like a carpet that has been painted in brown and green tones; it resembles a william morris arts & crafts pattern which corresponds to the period of production. The rattan top also testifies to the production of the victorian era when it was a more economical alternative to lacquer panels. As is the case for this table, it was also the norm to use very basic wood (such as recycled crates) for the underlying construction. Between 1870 and 1930, this kind of bamboo furniture was all the rage in britain, where more than 250 bamboo furniture manufacturers were active; none of them have labeled or signed their articles. State: Good general condition. Structurally healthy, although it has a slight oscillation and is a bit off-center. Signs of use and wear corresponding to age. Part of the rattan carpet is a little worn (see photo).
