Description
The zayane or “izaïanes” rug comes from the ait oumalou tribe of morocco. Amalou is a berber word meaning “shadow”. It is a word used to designate the mountains of the middle atlas where the amazighs stand, semi-nomadic, who inhabit the "shaded slope", a steep and wooded terrain with difficult access and a harsh climate which will forge the tenacious temperament of the berber personality. The ait oumalous were known to be indomitable, eager for excessive independence, which explains why the zayan tribe is renowned for their attachment to the ancient land and their struggle for independence. We can see this value in the rugs that women weaved. The patterns are not always clear and the dominant colors are strong and rather dark. Obviously, these authentic handmade rugs are not comparable to industrial rugs, as they have character and strong stories. They are not only carpets, but also an important heritage that transcends from generation to generation. Please note: delivery is free but there may be customs charges to pay. Take into consideration that you will receive a handmade product and not an industrial work made by a machine. There may be slight imperfections in shape or pattern as this is a vintage rug but all of our rugs are professionally restored and washed before shipping.
