3205 – terracotta pitcher signed jean marais - vallauris from the 20th century, in good condition, this vallauris ceramic pitcher with a satin brown cover with metallic reflections signed intaglio by the famous multifaceted artist and ceramist jean marais (1913-1998).no major cracks or chips. Note tiny little chips from use under the foot. Height 125 mm X 140 mm with handle. Weight 500 g. Careful and tracked shipping. Retired near grasse in the alpes-maritimes, this immense actor learned about pottery following the acquisition of a brand new kiln and then took filming lessons in vallauris, a town he frequented notably during in the 1950s when he accompanied jean cocteau during the festivities organized in honor of picasso. There he met nini and jo pasquali, the last potter in this town. He thus moves from pottery to modeling then to sculpture with talent and passion. He opened his first gallery there in 1975 before coming to live there in 1980 and then a second gallery in paris in 1976 then a third in megève in 1981 and a last one in biarritz in 1985. He was named honorary citizen of vallauris in 1998 a space, dedicated to this immense artist, was opened in june 2023. It is located in his former gallery.
