The Mercedes 300 SLR of Pierre Levegh a few laps before his accident on the circuit of the 24 hours of le Mans on 11 June 1955. The Mercedes of Pierre Levegh hit the back of the Austin Healey of Lance Macklin, then went up the embankment and exploded, its engine flew in the crowd gathered in front of the stands on the track side. Pierre Levegh died instantly as well as 81 spectators.
