Aldo van den Nieuwelaar (1944-2010) was one of the Dutch designers the most remarkable of the 1960s and 1970s. After his graduation from the Academy of arts, he started working for the influential Dutch designer Benno Premsela. Inspired by his employer, the De Stijl movement and the minimalist art of the 1960s, Van den Nieuwelaar has developed a rigorous geometric style. In 1969, shortly after the opening of his own office, Van den Nieuwelaar offers a series of lamps that are all based on the application of fluorescent tubes. The entire range has been exposed at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and then taken into production in limited edition by Artimeta. The production of this particular model, called "TC2" cycle lasted about two years (1972-74) and stopped at a total of 175 copies: 127 executed in white lacquered metal and only 48 were chromed.
