Antique Indian teak chest

A lovely solid teak antique chest from Rajasthan, in very good authentic condition. Original Iron handles, clasp and hinges, all in sound working order. Additionally, It has a small partitioned shelf on the right hand side, a typical feature. It also has attractive, turned wooden feet. Chests were traditionally used for storage across India, for clothes and general belongings. This piece is of great quality, often old chests were crafted from planks of whatever timber was to hand which were often painted and the years pull them apart somewhat, so they tend to be quite ‘gappy’. Not so with this one. It has excellent grain and colour, which the years have mellowed. A very attractive and functional addition to any room, providing great storage potential, an ideal coffee table or a very smart blanket box. Dimensions: width 90cm height 56cm depth 48cm
