'Tulip' dining table by Eero Saarinen for Knoll Studio

SORRY, THIS ITEM IS ON HOLD A large vintage wooden dining table with walnut veneer and black ‘tulip’ base dating from the late 80’s. This is an iconic design dating from the late 50’s and produced in a number of formats by Knoll. The suite of designs created by Eero Saarinen on the request of Florence Knoll included dining, coffee and side tables in various sizes. This is the largest format of the dining table and would seat from 8-10 depending on the type of dining chairs used. The top is in excellent vintage condition with just a few light marks here and there but no chips out of the woodwork on the edge as often seen when the table is used with metal framed dining chairs. It has a satin finish so is not intended to look gloss and shiny. The base has natural usage marks as one would expect as people tend to rest their feet on the pedestal in use - this is shown in the photos. These could be polished out if one preferred a more pristine finish but I personally think they add to the character of the piece. The table has the original chrome knoll studio plaque on the underside of the pedestal as shown.
