Description
The dining chairs was originally designed by the thonet company in 1904, and can be found in the thonet sales catalogues as model number 3. This particular piece is believed to be made by the thonet mundus company in one of their factories in former czechoslovakia in the 1930’s. The design of this chair is similar to model no. 13 and no. 23, but this one was designed without any additional supports between the seat and the backrest. The round seat with the slender circular support and the gentle arc of the legs are both a trademark of thonet’s design in the early 20th century, and the subtle curvature to the front of the chair makes for an even more comfortable seat. This detail was then widely used from the 1930’s onwards. These type of chairs were very popular not only for their comfort, but they were also often used by architects in restaurants all around the world. We believe this is due to the essence of their design fitting perfectly into any interior - whether modern or traditional. The chair is in great vintage condition with only minor wear and patina gained over the years. The piece have been recently completely refurbished. Our experienced craftsman has carried the restoration to the highest standard, reviving the beautiful natural pattern of both the seat and the backrest which were subsequently finished by hand in shellac varnish.
