Description
"poliedri" chandelier by carlo scarpa for venini (murano), italy, circa 1950. 33 murano textured glass polyhedres champagne-colored, 4 fires. Good original condition. Slight trace of wear on the metal fut, invisible when the glasses are in place. The glass parts are in good condition. Completely cleaned and re-electrified. Born in venice, scarpa soon nurtured a strong passion for glass and the history of glassware. He began collaborating with venini in 1932, then, as artistic director until 1947. The plastic possibilities of glass stimulate in it constant research and experimentation on detail. During this period, he redefined the possibilities and parameters of glass making. He has experimented with textures, explored colours and developed new techniques such as battuti, tessuti, granulari and murrine. 📸 photo of carlo scarpa (right) with master glassmaker arturo biasutto in venini's studio in murano - 1943 (archivio storico luce). At sensible paris, we love this chandelier for the expressiveness of the two main materials that make it up: glass and light. By day, the light that passes through it dresses in an iridescent dress with champagne-colored gradients. At night, this piece puts on its light suit to give new life to textured glass and project a delicate geometric pattern, like a kaleidoscope. Lighted or not, this lamp is a timeless sculpture that blends architecture and poetry.
