Height: 30 centimetres. A very decorative french hand forged wrought iron lamp from the 20's. The triangular base is embellished with 3 roses and small leafs. The two toned mauve and pink 'pate de verre' tulip shade is nicely marbled and once lit, it spreads vividly colorful light. The shade is signed Schneider. Cristallerie Schneider was a commercial and decorative glassware manufacturer founded by the brothers Charles and Ernest Schneider in 1908. The company was known best for their cameo glass vases and lamps, a style which employed the technique of etching designs through layers of different colored glass. Both brothers worked for well-known crystal and glass studio daum, before establishing their own company. Despite their early success manufacturing luxury glass, the outbreak of world war I forced the factory to close. After the war, the brothers restarted their business under the name Société Anonyme des Verreries Schneider. In the 1920s, their production of art deco glassware was enormously successful, and the company achieved widespread acclaim. Changing public tastes and the start of the great depression caused production to slow in the 1930s. The factory was again shut down world war II and repurposed by the Germans. Though business resumed after the war under the direction of Charles and his son, the company never achieved the success of the 1920s, and ceased production altogether in 1981. Today, works by cristallerie Schneider are held in the collections of the art institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles county museum of art, and the museum of fine arts in Boston, among others. The lamp is in a perfect condition, no chips or cracks to the glass and only minor wear consistent of age and use. It is rewired with black cloth twisted cord, an elegant on/off switch and bakelite plug. It holds the original french b22 socket. It measures 30 cm / 11, 8 "heigh.
