Rare pendant light in brass with opaline glass shades. Example of the early work of Danish designer Bent Karlby before he started with his more famous "space age" designs. These are very delicate in design and very rare today. This one has thick opaline glass shades with a jagged edge at top. The glass shades are in perfect condition. The pendant it self is a brass structure with thin metal plates covering the top and side of the light source. The pale yellow plates have perforated small stars that gives a great decorative effect. The plates and brass details have some minor signs of use. Glass shades in perfect condition. Standard E27 light bulb sockets. Danish architect-designer Bent Karlby was born in Århus in 1912 and graduated from his hometown’s technical school around 1932. During World War II, he joined the Danish resistance movement, contributing to the illegal Danish Journal and assisting Dansk-Svensk refugees. In 1943, he fled to Sweden and opened a design studio the following year.
