Chair b3, created around 1925 by Marcel Breuer at the Bauhaus. It takes its name from the painter Vassily Kandinsky who had fallen in love with it. The chassis consists of 9 chrome tubular sections screwed together giving the impression of a single piece. The backrest and armrests, initially made of fabric, were replaced by leather in later versions. The use of steel tubes was very innovative in the 1920s. Marcel Breuer was one of the first to reveal the possibilities of this new material. Breuer's inspiration is his bike. The handlebars, made of curved metal tubes, gave him the idea of using tubular steel for furniture. The Vassily b3 is also clearly inspired by English club chairs. Breuer removed the volume and kept only the skeleton. The chair was published by Thonet in 1928, by Gavina from 1962 to 1968 and by Knoll from 1968 to the present day. Here it is a model of the 1980s, whose edition is unknown. Good general condition. Some traces of friction in the leather. Dimensions: Height 73 cm. Width 79 cm. Depth 69 cm. Seat height 42 cm.
