Man singh II child. Maharaja man singh ii, who reigned from 1922 to 1949, was married to the famous princess gayatra devi. Jaipur (rajasthan) circa 1920. Photograph taken from the original negative, hand-painted in jaipur by one of the last specialists in this practice. Limited edition of 36 copies. Cliché from an old studio that opened its archives for us. The technique of the time (bulky wooden cameras, tripods, glass plates) as well as the climate favoured studio work, mainly the portrait where indian photographers became masters. At the turn of this selection we meet, among others, maharajahs, sadhûs, courtesans, some princesses, a cyclist, a football team, polo players, an elephant, two snake charmers... Pigment print numbered 30 X 40 cm. Directed by our master shooter on paper 260g archival ultrasmooth.
