Very beautiful signed model. From the glassworks of munich to the royal glassworks of st. Louis (1586-1781). A first glassworks was established in 1586 in the heart of a small valley in the forest of the northern vosges, in the place called monzthal, the main place where glass is made. The thirty years' war caused havoc in the region and glassworks ceased all activity in the mid-17th century. In 1767, by letters patent of louis xv, the glassworks of m-ntzthal took the name of the royal glassworks of st. Louis. The king encouraged its development and the new royal glassworks of st. Louis quickly became a flagship of the french economy. The royal crystalry of st. Louis (1781-1995) The date of 1781 marks a historic milestone with the discovery of the composition of the crystal by m.de beaufort, former director of the royal glassworks of st. Louis, seeking to make the thin as thin and transparent glass as possible. At the time only england had mastered the lead crystal formula. The royal academy of sciences recounts this experience in a report signed by condorcet and gives st. Louis the name of "cristallerie", at the time the first in france. The french revolution was caused by a general crisis in society, political institutions and public finances, a crisis aggravated by a short economic crisis due to poor harvests. The revolutionary mechanism is felt all the way to the st. Louis crystal factory. During this period, the privileges of the french glassmakers, which portieux also enjoyed, were lifted. Although st. Louis initially continued to produce glass, it devoted itself to a unique crystal production as early as 1825. The following years were years of innovation, developing increasingly sophisticated techniques and producing an increasing number of transparent and finely crafted table objects each year.
