Very beautiful traditional japanese ceramics. Very pretty hand-painted box decorated with a very representative motif of japanese culture. This rare porcelain bento box, signed, dates from the 50s, 70s. It is painted by hand, with a delicate pattern enhanced by gilding. Stamped with the artist's seal. This box is very modern for its time because of its brightly colored pattern. It will delight any collector of jubako or asian porcelain. It will be perfect as a new jewelry box. Jubako are stackable boxes that were/are used to hold food. They are traditionally made of ceramic/porcelain or lacquered wood, and are square or cylindrical in shape. Ceramic squares are the least common jubako but are perceived to have a more "japanese" aesthetic while rounds are more "chinese". Those made of ceramic or porcelain are most often blue and white (sometsuke), but we also see multicolored ones, including brightly colored imari porcelain. Jubako were/are used to organize the traditional new year's meal, osechi-ryori, each layer having a different dish. Nowadays, porcelain jubako can be found practically only in antique shops, but lacquered jubako are still used for new year's osechi. It is a very beautiful decorative piece but also practical to store objects such as your jewelry, keys and little secrets... It will bring an elegant touch to any interior decoration. This jubako is composed of 4 compartments and a lid. Dimensions (approx.): 24 * 14 * 14cm. Weight: 2.5 kilograms. In very good condition for its age, without cracks or lack, some roughness due to the firing of the ceramic and a single small shine inside one of the compartments. It is an object entirely handmade by a japanese potter.
