Description
Vase of the foucart jourdan workshop - Vallauris in the shape of a pitcher with a handles, signed under the base - ceramics glazed in shades of speckled green - for the record, the Foucard family has been established in vallauris (alpes-maritimes) since 1630. The potter André Foucard (1834-1912) had two sons, jacques (1862-1929) and Francois (1866-1939). Both work as potters but in different factories. Each creates his factory by adding to his name that of his wife: foucard-jourdan for françois, and foucard-terrin for jacques. François and baptistine's son, joseph (1894-1959), continued production with his wife jeanne rémond (1902-1979). Their daughter françoise, who has been working with her parents since 1945, took over the factory in 1969. The large wood-burning oven of this pottery is the last of its kind in vallauris to die out, in 1983, and the factory closes its doors for good at the end of 1995." ("ceramateurs").
