Oil on canvas by the Breton painter Antoine Guillemet, attached to the Barbizon school and close to the Impressionists. This student of Corot and Daubigny frequented the greatest artists of his time. Manet even painted it alongside Berthe Morisot in his famous painting "The Balcony". He was close to Monet and Cézane and helped both artists in their careers. This great friend of Émile Zola had a strong penchant for naturalism as the writer and even inspired Zola his character Gagnière in The Work, the fourteenth volume of the series Les Rougon-Macquart. Guy de Maupassant even dedicated his new baptism to him in January 1884. This painter is very popular with connoisseurs and highly sought after for his works depicting the Cotentin. Moreover, several of his paintings are kept in private collections or exhibited in French museums such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Caen, the castle-museum of Dieppe, the museum of the fisheries of Fécamp or the Museum of Art and Archaeology of the Périgord in Périgueux.
