Description
Old olive green bottle very dark, thick glass, dating from 1865/1870. Waffle on the underside of the bottle - Janos Hunyadi - Bitterquelle Saxlehner. Origin: The water of the "bitter spring" or Bitterquelle was exploited in Budapest by Andreas Saxlehner in the 19th century and distributed in Europe and the United States under the brand name "Janos Hunyadi", named after the Hungarian general who repelled the Ottomans in 1458. This moulded bottle, known as 24 ounces, or about 70 cl, actually contains only 67 cl. It is cylindrical (7.8 cm in diameter) and has a height of 23.5 cm. Intended to be clogged with cork, it has a narrow neck (17 mm in diameter inside) reinforced by a thick collar.
