Dating: c. 1940. Dimensions: 46 x 13 cm. Materials: wood. Provenance: ex private collection, Sablon gallery, Belgium. Provided with certificate of origin from an independent expert. These masks are used for end-of-initiation ceremonies and in agrarian rites celebrated during millet sowing. Their name is Munyangi or Fota. The horns symbolize the knives of chiefs, sometimes used for circumcision.
