Rocking chair, or rocking chair j16 by hans wegner for fdb. Varnished beech. Seat in braided paper rope. Model designed in 1944. First edition of the 70s. It is said in denmark that all children born after 1945 were cradled in a j16 armchair! To create his rocking chairs, hans j. Wegner went looking for inspiration at the source: the slat back chairs of the american shakers. Indeed, the shakers, a religious community settled in the early eighteenth century in new england, devoted themselves among other things to cabinetmaking, and made their own furniture, including rocking chairs. Its swaying allows, they say, to guide the gaze towards the heavens.
