"steelwood" magis chairs by Erwan et Ronan Bouroullec

The two french brothers erwan and ronan bouroullec were able to impose their vision of a design as soft as revolutionary. Their steelwood chair, introduced in 2007, has already achieved the status of a revered and already copiously imitated design icon! As the name suggests, it radically combines steel and wood with assemblages between deliberately highly visible materials. A very original and surprisingly harmonious marriage. The structure (back and armrests) is made of varnished steel sheet, while the seat and base are made of natural or painted solid beech (in red, white or black). This hybrid silhouette emanates both a sense of modernity and a disturbing sense of familiarity. The bouroullec like to "reiterate forms" by tapping into our cultural memory and using modern manufacturing techniques. In order to obtain the curved shape of the backrest, the steel sheet must undergo at least 10 stamping steps! A long and delicate manufacturing process that required extensive research.
