Large polychrome poster of the exhibition from september 5 to november 9, 1986, by oskar kokoschka at the kunsthaus in zurich. Very beautiful color print laminated on panel. Period: 20th circa: 1986 dimensions: height: 128cm X width: 90cm X depth: 2.5cm oskar kokoschka (1886-1980) is one of the main austrian painters and ambassadors of expressionism and viennese modernity. He was what we would today call a jack-of-all-trades artist. He wrote plays and stories, created theater sets and mosaics for churches. But he was above all a painter and owes his fame to his portraits. Kokoschka was primarily interested in faces. Almost half of his works represent busts. The artist then does not seek so much to faithfully transcribe the physical appearance of the model, but the character traits hidden behind his face and his personality. The subjects portrayed by kokoschka reveal their optimism, but also their uncertainties and their inner heartbreaks, and sometimes also their sorrow and their pain. Kokoschka's style has often been described as painting of the soul. Fixing the entire being on the canvas and not just its physical appearance has always been oskar kokoschka's obsession. He painted adolf loos and karl kraus, golda meir, ezra pound, theodor heuss and ludwig ehrhardt. In 1966, he was invited to paint the portrait of german chancellor konrad adenauer. Adenauer. This painting – among the most famous – occupied angela merkel’s office for 16 years and until recently. Closer to the news of his time: the committed artist oskar kokoschka would probably have appreciated this privilege.
