I am offering a beautiful original watercolor by Ray Perraud (1895–1986), dated 1933, executed on genuine Arches paper. The work depicts a wonderfully gentle spring landscape. A blossoming orchard, a row of cypress trees, a slender church steeple, and an old village, with a backdrop of slightly misty mountains. On the back, a handwritten note reads "Risou 1947, " Which most likely refers to the Risou massif, located between the Drôme and Hautes-Alpes departments, a region renowned for its orchards and clear light. Ray Perraud (1895–1986) was a 20th-century French watercolorist, known for his sensitive and luminous landscapes. A regionalist artist, he was particularly drawn to the hills of southeastern France, with orchards, hilltop villages, cypress trees, and mountains forming a large part of his work. His work appears regularly on the art market, where it is appreciated for the subtlety of his palette and the mastery of his line. Perraud favored Arches paper, the preferred support of professional watercolorists, which lends his works great stability and a high quality of execution. Antique wooden frame with a period gilt molding.
