This large glazed ceramic jar dates from the 17th century and originates from China, during the Ming dynasty. It was originally used to store rice wine and other traditional grain-based spirits. Cizhou ceramics emerged during the Song dynasty (960-1279) in what is now Hebei and Henan provinces and continued to be produced until the end of the Ming dynasty. This piece exemplifies the characteristic style of Cizhou ceramics, with a stoneware base covered in a creamy white slip and hand-decorated in warm browns. The painted motifs—lotus flowers, petals, and vegetal friezes—are applied with a free and expressive hand. Every imperfection, mark of age, or nuance of the glaze contributes to the uniqueness of this jar. Today, it can be used as a decorative object, either on its own or as part of a larger composition, in a contemporary, artisanal, or eclectic interior. Dimensions: H 55cm X Ø 33cm. Material(s): Glazed ceramic. Origin: China. Period: 17th century.
