Description
Magnificent pair of oil paintings on wood depicting very beautiful still lifes with bouquets of flowers dating from the 19th century. Works of art, collector's items. Timeless decor. The colors of the flowers and leaves are vibrant with beautiful material effects. The whole thing is very well painted. Superb pieces in very good condition. They are signed "fontaine", one at the bottom right and the other at the top right. The two carved and gilded wooden frames date from the 1930s. All of the rosettes, scrolls and medallions appearing on the frame were carved in wood. The signature of the craftsman who designed them is hollowed out on the top of the frames. They also have the label emile bouche in paris, famous french cabinetmaker. They are referenced "ref. 56 fine gold patina". These frames are known, referenced and highly regarded. "the e bouche frame is a benchmark in framing works of art. Emile bouche, french frame maker and decorator from the 1930s to the 1950s, created superior quality frames, whose signature is inscribed in the wood of the frame. These frames have become very popular with collectors and art lovers." the frames have some missing gilding and some wear to the wood. These little flaws give them a lot of charm and authenticity. They are superb.
