The artist: olynthe madrigali (1887-1950), painter from bastia and brother-in-law of the sculptor jean-mathieu pekle, acquired his skills as an autodidact despite a brief period of study with paul saïn. During the first world war, he was captured by the germans, then settled in algeria around 1920 as a customs official, while exploring syria in 1929. His paintings evoke the landscapes of algiers, its region, and the landscapes of his native corsica.
