A portrait painting of incredible quality. This painting represents the future “phantom commander” David Sterling, then future creator of the air service special; better known as the airlock. This unit made its name during the Second World War by engaging in daring raids carried out behind the German lines in North Africa. To strengthen itself, it integrated foreign units, particularly French (1st air infantry company) and Greek (sacred battalion). At the end of the desert campaign (Libya, Cyrenaica, Crete and Tunisia) it joined Great Britain to restructure with a view to the operations to liberate southern Europe (Italy) then northern Europe (France, Belgium, countries -low) by forming an Anglo-French-Belgian brigade. An extremely rare museum piece, Sold with its frame. Canvas with frame: 61 X 51 cm. Canvas: 42.5 x 52.5 cm.
